In 1973, contracts were signed for a Kuraray PVA plant, Mitsubishi Petrochemical (MPC) high pressure polyethylene plant, and MPC ethylene plant for the construction of the Shanghai Petrochemical Plant, China's first large-scale petrochemical complex.

This laid the foundation for the development of China's petrochemical industry.

aking the opportunity of the Shanghai petrochemical complex, Western Japan Trading went on to sign a series of contracts for chemical plants such as 003 (Shandong SBR production plant), 004 (Jilin ethylene cracking furnace), and 014 (Chongqing natural gas method PVA production plant).
